Safety

Safety when handling trucking and oil and gas equipment is of utmost importance at Westmax Trucking Ltd.

Because of this, our drivers undergo extensive training, involving interviews, shadowing and mentorship to ensure that not only does our team have the ability to carry out the work safely, but to represent Westmax Trucking Ltd. in what we do best.

Because Westmax Trucking Ltd. has been blessed in having low turnover, our drivers are incredibly experienced in what they do, meaning safety is at the forefront of what they do. With a collective 150 years of professional driving, new drivers are well-positioned to receive the best training in safe work practices.

Our HSE Coordinator ensures that all drivers are up-to-date on their tickets, which include the following:

  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
  • Standard First Aid
  • H2S Alive
  • Gas Detection
  • Bonding & Grounding
  • WHMIS
  • TDG
  • Driver Training (Hours of Service, Trip Inspection, Cargo Securement, Fatigue Management, Weights & Dimensions)

Our operations team includes a team of highly qualified mechanics who maintain our trucks at regular service intervals so our drivers know that their equipment is always top of line. Our mechanics will also use their innovative minds to build new units and methods for our drivers to work more efficiently and safely.

Indigenous Relations

Westmax Trucking acknowledges traditional lands, where we are grateful to work, live, and learn on the homeland of the many diverse First Nations and Métis people whose ancestors have walked this land since time immemorial.

Being located in northern Alberta, Westmax Trucking recognizes that much of the work that we conduct is on traditional lands. We understand that the nature of our work relies heavily on the First Nations and Métis Settlements in which the work takes place. Because of this, we consult the nations and settlements to build relationships, to receive blessing and permission to work with the least amount of disruption to the traditional lands. We do not want to take advantage of these lands, but rather have both parties be able to grow from the economic opportunities, ensuring the longevity of resources and local career opportunities. As a local company rooted in our community, we owe a great deal of our success to the opportunities provided by these traditional lands and must thus operate sustainably.

Community

As a locally owned and operated company, Westmax Trucking Ltd. finds great importance in giving back to the communities that gave us an opportunity to take root in our service region.

We look for initiatives that align with what we value: pride in what you do, hard work, and family. Many of our initiatives include sponsorship to a group, while others include a donation, a fundraiser hosted by our own employees, and hands-on coordination and delivery of items. If there is something that we can do in our communities to assist, we’re happy to do it and seek out opportunities to become involved.
